Is AI Based Recommendation Ruin our Choice ?

They say "Data is new oil ". Today everybody have smart phone aka a full fledged computer in their hand networked with many other devices. Everyone is online 24 X 7. And all companies want to know what their existing and potential customers are up-to.  They are using AI and ML techniques to study their habits, patterns, consumption patterns, search queries and many more that may be we are not aware of๐Ÿ˜€ . This data is consumed by AI ML models created based on some algorithms to predict interests of person and what in future they may want to order, see, purchase, learn, wear, go-to, maintain, hospitalized and what not! This is done of-course to increase profits of these companies and bring comfort to their customers but is it happening really? Are these algorithms understand the mind ? Is it ruining the excitement in unpredictability of life, newness, surprises? Is it making people tunnel visioned? These are the questions that comes to my mind whenever I find myself surrounded with all smart (๐Ÿ˜‹) machines. And there is no easy way to escape.

For example, whenever I see videos on social media, next moment I am surrounded with all the corresponding product advertisements, and bombarded with tons of other similar videos and now onward  this topic will be recommended to me always. If I get busy in my life, I might forget to search something new and keep watching same recommended videos until on one fine day I wake up and ask myself what am I doing! I have to take special efforts to see what are other things in the world and I have to go in search of new things. Many won't do it and remain stuck in same loop not knowing they are being played with. It may change their psychology which can affect everything in their life.

Hence, now special efforts are needed to get out of impact of machines and algorithms on us. Efforts are needed to remain on the other side of the line and think cleanly the way everyone was able to do few years back. The biggest threat that needs to be addressed is that there is new generation who have never seen and experienced world without smart machines and living with clean and peaceful mind. I afraid that digital detoxification can be new normal in future.

Weekend at Pondicherry

Few days ago I went to Pondicherry or Puducherry with family. It was French colony before Independence. Pondicherry is at about 160 kms from Chennai. It is favorite trip destination for various reasons. There are some beautiful beaches, rocky beaches. You can buy any brand of bear, whiskey, vodka etc. at cheaper rates. In Chennai you won't get all brands as it's restricted by state government. So many people go for enjoying hard drinks. Pondicherry still have French flavor in its life. The old buildings have French architectural touch. Policeman caps resembles that with French police. Even some Church resemble with saint Notre Dame at Paris. I stayed at Green Palace hotel. It was really great place to stay. They have studied French hotels very well. I received all the services that I use to get in Paris. Resemblance is astonishing. At approximately 2kms from hotel there is a very good Rock beach. The place is great. There is a road parallel to the beach where you can ta...

Public Transpotation in Paris

Paris is famous for its museum, for Eiffel tower, as a city of romance but also it is famous for its best ever public transport service. City is divided in various zones. There are four ways of transportation, bus, metro, tram and RER (it is a railway). But the best part is they are well connected with each other. For regular travelers it is possible to buy just one Navigo card. It is the pass or card, by using which it is possible to travel by any of the above means in any zone of the city. So good thing is, it is literally possible to travel at any part of the city without carrying a single cent for complete one month.  Based on zones and the tracks of metro, tram etc. city maps are available. These maps are elaborate and self-explanatory. Once understood how to read, then it is possible to roam at any part of city without opening mouth. Tram or metro are running at every 3 to 5 minutes. So waiting is minimal. Inside the metro, or tram or RER, all stations on that root ...

Mahabalipuram: The Land of Mahabali

I am writing again after another six months. I have to keep visiting here regular. Actually, initial plan was to add at least one post per month but it appears that even it is difficult. I will try to stick this plan although lot of things coming up in next few days. I will discuss it in next post. I started this blog to share my experiences in life, wherever I stay. Currently I am in Chennai and I am sharing my life here. I don’t want to make it a travel blog. Generally I tend to do that more may be it is human tendency . :)  Recently I visited Mahabalipuram a small town near Chennai just 55 Km away. It was second trip. When I first visited, I was thinking I am visiting just another temple place. For those who don’t know, there are many old and beautiful temples in Tamil-Nadu. But, I am not big fan of temples. Why? Well not now on this. I rather avoid discussing religious topics. Mahabalipuram is different and very beautiful place to visit. I am happy that I went there...
