Hyderabad Trip

While growing up I had chance to travel many places in India. I have to give it to my parents. I covered lengths and breadths of the Indian subcontinent. And now I wanted to plough the same experience in my kids. I don’t have to repeat the benefits of travelling… many have written about it. Hence I with my wife was searching for destination within country in my budget and time available. Goal was to show my kids the other state , different language speaking people, travelling experience and broaden their understanding of the world around of course also to have fun and gather some memories for all of us. We decided to visit Hyderabad and many wondered. As we have not chosen any hills, seas or jungles. But I think it was perfectly appropriate choice for my goals of the trip. Why? Because it was near just 550 kms , possibly to travel with train. And there are so many places to visit in a single city.

Do I don’t like air travel? I love it. It’s exciting but it wouldn’t give my kids travelling experience, see other landscapes and so on. While saying that I must admit I chose Shatabdi express and it kind of mimicked air travel experience on rails. Indian railway is improving, and it is good, but I feel we are missing real trains experience. You now don’t see so many different people entering the train at each station, various vendors selling so many different things… there use to be some items only sold in trains. We now miss so many performers and even beggars. that was the real India. Maybe India is changing faster than my own apprehension about my own country. Anyway, it used to teach about real world just by taking trains trip. Maybe not so comfortable but insightful journey in earlier times. This was little out of context, but it is okay.

So Hyderabad. it has so many things to offer. Lumbini Park, Golkonda fort, Salarjung Museum, Birla temple and planetarium, Ramoji film city, Charminar, and many more. I wanted only 4 days break but due to unavailability of reservations we decided to go ahead for 5 days. I also had my hidden agenda…I also wanted to see hi tech city in Hyderabad maybe checking out city as potential workplace.

So, as I said earlier, we went by train . It started in the early morning and reached at 2.30 in the afternoon. We were welcomed by heavy rains. But it was only instance of rain in our trip period. We were staying in Hitech city and I am really impressed by it. It is much better than Hinjawadi in Pune. Hotel was good. Breakfast was western and Indian mixed and covered in the cost. Hyderabad metro is good covering major destinations. Hotel was near to metro terminal.

Day 1

So, on the first day we went to see Lumbini Park area. It is in front of Secretariat’s building which is superb architecture. I really enjoyed it. We went to see a laser show in the evening. It was first laser show my kids and wife. They showcased city history in quick show and was well narrated. We had returned hotel after having some food and prepared for next day.

Day 2

Next day was for Birla temple and planetarium. Birla temple is on small hill. It is good place to take a good glance over the entire city. You can observe secretariat building, Hussain Sagar lake from there. It has good view. Just at walkable distance, there is Birla planetarium. It can accommodate around 50 people for around 25-minute show. It is moderate campus size. There is space museum, it showcases India's space growth story. It has museum, related to electrical, electronics & mechanical principles. It really teaches students by practical experiences.

In the evening, we visited to another interesting museum of odd cars. Sudha's museum is a museum of cars. It has cars of any shape. You demand and car of that shape is present. There are cars of chess board, sofas, lip steak, cake, shoes, toilet, pen, phone and so on. All these are working models. It is interest place but little costly. It should not take more than 1 hour to see it.

Day 3

Originally we planned day 3 for Salarjung museum but we change our plan at the last minute and decided to visit Ramoji film city. To be continued...

Exploring Paris

This was my second weekend in Paris. Now, I am settled in Paris, I know the routes, I know how to search routes for any location. I am ok with food and weather. Language is not problem. People try their best to speak in English. At the same time I am trying my best to know more and more French words. My senior here company suggested some locations to see for week end. I decided to follow him. He suggested many places near Eiffel Tower. On Saturday, I started my tour with visit to a very famous place i.e Assembly Nationale. The moment I saw this building and some statues in front of build all I could say "Wow". Frankly speaking I need all kind of good adjectives to describe Paris. Its so beautiful everywhere. Does anybody know meaning of word Paris, is it Beautiful? Assembly Nationale is Gorgeous building. It is in front of Siene river. From, the bank of Siene, if looked around, in any direction, its simply beautiful view. Siene was flowing silently, and l...

Public Transpotation in Paris

Paris is famous for its museum, for Eiffel tower, as a city of romance but also it is famous for its best ever public transport service. City is divided in various zones. There are four ways of transportation, bus, metro, tram and RER (it is a railway). But the best part is they are well connected with each other. For regular travelers it is possible to buy just one Navigo card. It is the pass or card, by using which it is possible to travel by any of the above means in any zone of the city. So good thing is, it is literally possible to travel at any part of the city without carrying a single cent for complete one month.  Based on zones and the tracks of metro, tram etc. city maps are available. These maps are elaborate and self-explanatory. Once understood how to read, then it is possible to roam at any part of city without opening mouth. Tram or metro are running at every 3 to 5 minutes. So waiting is minimal. Inside the metro, or tram or RER, all stations on that root ...

Karla Caves

Last Saturday and weekend, we decided to go for a short trip near Pune towards Mumbai at Lonavala (60KM). On the way of Lonavala there is a small tourist attraction. Karla caves. Compare to Ajanta Ellora it is very small. However, the carvings, sculptures never stops to amaze me.  If you start from Pune, then it is 6KM before reaching Lonavala. It takes 15 - 20 minutes trek and you would reach the mountain top to find Karla caves in front of you. It is protected by ASI (Archaeological Survey of India). Number of caves is small probably less than 10 but still they are amazing. If you happen to travel in rainy season, natural waterfalls are active and they are falling in front of caves. Caves mainly can be divided in two parts. One part is temple and other parts are rooms for devotees.  You should certainly plan the visit. It will give you mesmerizing experience and some great memories.  Here are some glimpse of beauty...I am sure you will visit there.
